Beware of love scamming: 66-year-old loses 89,000 euros!

Neubrandenburg, Deutschland - The Neubrandenburg police inspection again warns of the perfidious scam of the "Love Scammering". A 66-year-old woman from the Mecklenburg Lake District district became victim and has been transferring a total of incredible 89,000 euros to a supposed "lover" since December 2024. The fraudster had contacted the woman via an online partner exchange and set up a supposedly romantic relationship for months. Again and again he demanded money for alleged emergencies such as tax debts and customs fees.

When the woman finally received no news, she became suspicious and alerted the police. The criminal police have now started the investigation into fraud. The police appeal to the population of being vigilant with online dating and not passing on personal or financial information to unknown persons. In addition, it is advised not to transfer any money and not to be understood emotionally. If fraud was suspected, the police should be informed immediately.
