In the trunk and on the back seat of his vehicle, the customs officers found five violins, a double bass and a cello that together had a value of almost 9,500 euros

The driver could not provide any valid proof of discard and gave contradictory information on the origin of the instruments. Since these should be introduced illegally into the Union customs area, the customs officers initiated an investigation into tax evasion. The man immediately paid the due import taxes of 2,163 euros and a security deposit of 500 euros to avoid further legal steps.
