Two car accidents at the same time: fire brigade fights against heavy rain
Schwelm (ots)
On Monday afternoon of September 3, 2024, the fire brigade in Schwelm was called to two parallel missions on the highway, which presented the emergency services with a special challenge. Alarmed at 3:36 p.m., the fire brigade moved out to the A1 motorway in the direction of Dortmund, where there was a serious traffic accident with two cars between the Wuppertal-Nord motorway and the Gevelsberg junction.
The two vehicles that were badly damaged by the collision were on the left lane. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. However, one person was slightly injured and could be cared for on site, which the firefighters could quickly implement with the support of their medical equipment. The emergency services secured the accident site against flowing traffic to prevent further accidents and to ensure security on site.
further challenge on the way
At the time when the fire brigade worked in the first accident, another incident occurred on the A43 motorway in the direction of Münster, in front of the Sprockhövel junction. Here there was a sole accident with an electrically powered car. The damaged vehicle had also stopped in the fast lane, which required rapid action.
The operations manager Stefan Rohde reacted immediately and divided his emergency services in order to get to the second scene of the accident. It was again ensured that the route was secured and the people present, in particular the driver of the electrically operated vehicle, were comprehensively looked after. In both cases, the fire brigade ensured that fire protection was guaranteed to exclude any risk of fire through the damaged vehicles.
The arrival of the emergency services was made more difficult by violent heavy rain and hail, which led the view of less than 30 meters and led to demanding conditions on the highway. Es drang Wasser in die Einsatzfahrzeuge ein, trotz geschlossener Fenster. These extreme weather conditions and the associated dangers contributed to making the use more difficult.
A total of 17 emergency services and five vehicles were used. Among them were volunteers from the Linderhausen and City of Löchezen as well as the operational management service and the full -time waking crew. The entire mission ended around 6:00 p.m. after both points of operation could be handed over to the motorway police properly. These operations illustrate the challenges with which the fire brigade is faced with extreme weather conditions in view of traffic accidents.
