Summer vacation fun: 13 children learn first aid at the DRK in Gärtringen

In Gärtringen, a very special holiday program attracts the attention of young people: the youth red cross. Recently, 13 children were allowed to dive into the exciting world of first aid and test their skills in dealing with association material. A vehicle garage of the DRK local association became a temporary hospital in which the kids provided injuries under guidance of trained supervisors and learned a lot about emergency measures.

The excitement was great when the children, between the ages of eight and twelve, started practical exercises. Jasmin Gally-Marissal, an experienced group leader, motivated the little helpers with the words: "Creating associations is actually very simple, right?" Less the perfect result was, but more focused on learning success. It was about conveying the children that first aid does not always have to be flawless as long as it helps - a central message of the program.

The experience in DRK vehicles

In addition to the creation of associations, the practical part was not neglected: in three DRK vehicles, the small participants drove to various locations where they were confronted with realistically painted injured. Their curiosity and enthusiasm were unmistakable when they explored the vehicles. From the emergency backpack in the on -call vehicle to the diverse medical devices in the ambulance - the children were fascinated by the equipment. Even the vacuum mattress and the different wearing were admired.

"super-interested" was the unanimous opinion of Nora Braun, one of the youth leaders. According to her, children often show great commitment, especially with an offer where they can not only learn but also actively participate. The great interest is also reflected in the number of registrations; Demand often exceeds the available places. This is all the more astonishing, since around 35 children and adolescents are regularly part of the Youth Red Cross team and train together with the supervisors on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

The focus of the community is particularly the focus of the youth red cross. The children not only learn how to help in emergency situations, but also the value of teamwork and mutual support. After the practice hours, the groups often come together to socialize such as grill evenings, which also strengthens the cohesion.

The importance of first aid training is not assessed high enough. The children were also informed about the essence of the right behavior when the emergency call 112 is chosen. The clear message of the group leader was that they are never alone-"You always have a friend in the management," emphasized Gally-Marissal. It is crucial to give the operational control centers a precise description of the location and not to set up during the conversation. This information is not only instructive for the children, but also vital.

The commitment of the youth red cross is a valuable initiative. Such programs not only impart first aid knowledge, but also raise awareness of emergency situations. These experiences can be decisive in the future and motivate the young people to actively help others support others.
