Technik Museums: Historical Marine submarine stops on the way to Sinsheim in Heidelberg

An impressive relic from past military times are currently causing a sensation, while it finds its way from the museum in Speyer to the Sinsheim Museum. The former 206a class submarine, which has been on duty since 1973 and was taken out in 2010, is promoted on its transport route both by ship and land through an elaborate logistical operation.

On Saturday morning, the U17 started its trip on the Neckar towards Heidelberg, where it arrived safely around noon. However, the team awaits the biggest challenge next Monday when the approximately 50 meter long submarine has to navigate past the old bridge in Heidelberg to achieve its goal. This spectacular maneuver will attract many onlookers and the efforts of the transport team will be the focus of interest.

The entire company, which is expected to cost around two million euros, is largely financed by donations and reflects the public commitment to the preservation and appreciation of historical technology. The Technik Museum Sinsheim thus impressively shows how important it is to keep the memory of past times and the technological achievements of earlier generations.
