Bank robbery in Borken: Breaking ATMs and taking flight!
In a dramatic night in Borken (Schwalm-Eder-Kreis), three suspects blew up two ATMs in a bank branch at around 2 a.m. The explosion was so loud that officials from the federal police became aware of the incident at the nearby train station and immediately hurried to the crime scene. While the perpetrators tried to flee, someone managed to save himself in a powerful vehicle while a 24-year-old man was arrested from the Netherlands. The arrested person, who is already known for similar offenses, had several travel bags with cash worth several ten thousand euros. It is the subject of the investigation whether this money comes from the blown up machines.
At the scene, criminal officers found explosive packages that were defused by experts. The property damage amounts to half a million euros, but fortunately no people were injured. The search for the fleeting accomplices is in full swing, while the 24-year-old is to be brought before a judge on Thursday. In 2024 there were already 22 ATMs blasting in Hesse, with a significant increase in the previous year. Witnesses are asked to provide information to the police in order to further advance the investigation. Details for this are to be found.
