ATM blasting in Borken: suspects on the run!

On the night of October 30, 2024, a violent ATM sprinkling in Borken (Schwalm-Eder-Kreis) shook the peace: three suspects broke into a bank branch and blew up two ATMs. The explosion was so deafening that it was heard by a federal police patrol nearby, which immediately hurried to the site. While a fourth accomplice was waiting in an escape vehicle, the perpetrators were discovered when leaving the bank. A 24-year-old man from the Netherlands was arrested while the others fled. During the arrest, the police found several ten thousand euros in cash in two travel bags of the suspect, which is already known for similar acts.

The amount of damage by the explosion is estimated at around half a million euros. The criminal police in North Hesse secured extensive evidence at the scene and defused two explosive packages. The Hessian State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation and searches for the fleeting perpetrators. The arrested suspect is to be brought before the judge on October 31. This is not the first incident of this kind in Hesse: in 2024 there have already been 22 ATM blastings, while the search measures led to weakening significant Dutch perpetrators in the region. Witnesses are asked to report references to the criminal service service. For more details, See the report on newsstadt.de .
