New construction of the Borkener indoor pool: Costs explode to 23.9 million!

Westrandstraße 40, 34582 Borken, Deutschland - The planning for the new building of the indoor pool in Borken stands still! The reason is the astronomically increased costs that have doubled from 12 to 23.9 million euros since 2019. The district and the city should each bear half, but the calculations do not include the demolition costs of the old bath or possible grants. The state of Hesse had promised a million euros in funding from the Swim program, but the uncertainty remains great.

Borkens Mayor was unavailable for a statement, while the CDU asked about the current status in the district council. The district's response led to listening: "The commissioning of the approval planning is currently resting." It is unclear whether additional funds will be provided and could influence the future of the project. With a planned start of construction in 2025 and the opening at the end of 2028, the city could also expect annual succession costs of at least 592,000 euros, which potentially increase to around 713,000 euros if a contract is concluded with the EAM energy supplier. A financial risk for the region that nobody can afford for lightly. Further details can be found here .
