digital journey through time to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Emschergenossenschaft
As part of the celebrations on the occasion of its 125th anniversary, the Emscher cooperative created an important digital platform. A new microsite not only offers comprehensive information about the celebrations that take place on September 14th and 15th in several cities, but also the opportunity to explore the history of the Emscher cooperative from its beginnings to modern developments.
celebrations in the Ruhr area
The anniversary celebrations take place in several cities in the Ruhr area. On September 14th, the Bernepark in Bottrop will start, where the program begins at 11 a.m. The Bürgerpark, which used to be a sewage treatment plant, offers modern offers for the population, including music and catering. In the evening, the “FireDancer” will round off the event with their spectacular fire and laser show.
On Sunday, September 15th, the celebrations continue to the east of the Emscher area, with events at the Emscherquellhof in Holzwickede and the Emscher-Auen farm in Castrop-Rauxel. A varied program for the whole family is also offered here.
A look back at 125 years of history
The Microsite allows visitors to discover the most important stages of the Emscher cooperative, which was founded in 1899. The history includes significant events such as the straightening of the Emscher, the construction of sewage treatment plants and pumping plants as well as the successful completion of the comprehensive generation project Emscher-Revau. The Microsite therefore not only offers current information, but also a valuable historical context.
organization and important projects
The Emschergenossenschaft, which was founded as the first German water management association, plays a crucial role in wastewater disposal, flood protection and adaptation to climate change. With over 130 kilometers on cycle and footpaths, it also promotes local recreation and mobility in the region. Among the best-known projects is the Emscher conversion, which has created a modern sewage infrastructure with 436 kilometers underground channels.
meaning for the community
The activities of the Emschergenossenschaft and the celebrations for the 125th anniversary illustrate the important role that she plays in improving the quality of life in the Ruhr area. By creating a better handling of water, the renaturation of water and the provision of leisure facilities, the Emschergenossenschaft has contributed to revitalizing the region and mastering ecological challenges.
