Café Ivy in Bottrop: A dream ends after only 9 months

The Ruhr area, known for its diverse gastronomy, has to accept a loss again. The Café Ivy in Bottrop, which was only opened less than a year ago, closes its doors. A used note announces the upcoming end and leaves many regular customers with a feeling of disappointment.

The owner, Nicolai Franck, had great hope with this café in December 2023, which he named after his beloved dog. He realized a long -cherished dream, but reality turned out to be hard nuts. After only nine months, the project has already failed, a fact that raises many questions and indicates the challenges with which the gastronomy in the Ruhr area is confronted.

Café Ivy: A tragic turn

Franck said the “WAZ” that a combination of various factors led to closure. The number of guests remained far behind the expectations, which is often the rash in the catering trade. Private circumstances also contributed. In addition, the location of the café is central, but it is difficult to recognize from the outside, which may deter potential customers.

The café, which extended over 75 square meters, offered a selection of coffee specialties, cakes and small snacks - offers that the Bottroper will soon no longer be able to enjoy. On August 31, 2024, the Café Ivy will open for the last time. The closure is not only a loss for the owner, but also for the community that tries to make new gastronomic experiences.

The closure of the Café Ivy has not been the first of its kind in the past few weeks. There were already two other restaurants in the vicinity that had to close. This highlights the challenges that restaurants in the Ruhr area have to master. The struggle for the favor of customers in a region with a rapidly changing gastro scene is clearly noticeable.

A look at the history shows that the predecessor of the Café Ivy did not last long. But despite the difficulties, the hope remains that new concepts and creative ideas will soon see the light of day and enrich the gastronomic landscape.
