Cellar fire in Bottrop: Fire brigade saves residents from swaths of smoke

In the early morning hours of October 24, 2024, the Bottrop fire brigade was alerted to a dramatic basement fire in an apartment building in the Fuhlenbrock district. Local residents reported a burning tumble dryer who quickly ensured a strong smoke development in the basement and stairwell. Firefighters immediately went to fire fighting, while another squad checked the staircase and provided fresh air with a ventilation device. Smoke alarm had already made an alarm in several apartments.

One of the residents who were still in the apartment could certainly be evacuated. However, two other residents had inhaled flue gases during the extinguishing work, at the age of 57 and 73, after they had tried unsuccessfully. Both were transported to a Bottrop hospital for a medical examination. The fire brigade ended at 6:45 a.m. without worse things happened. More details www.lokalkompass.de .
