Loud bang in Gelsenkirchen: bomb from the Second World War blasted!
In the night of Friday, a loud bang frightened the residents in the north of Gelsenkirchen! It crashed at exactly 0:50 a.m. when a controlled blasting of a 250-kilogram World War II bomb was carried out in Bottrop. The noise was heard in neighborhoods such as Buer, Erle, Hassel and Horst, and many reported wobbling window panes. The bomb that was discovered during construction was equipped with a dangerous acidity and could not be defused. Therefore, the municipal security service ordered the evacuation of around 2,800 people, including a retirement home, within a radius of 500 meters.
The explosion not only shook bottrop, but also the neighborhood in Gelsenkirchen. While some window panes broke in the evacuated retirement home, luckily people remained intact. Despite the violent explosion, the police received no reports about damage in Gelsenkirchen. The residents were able to return to their apartments an hour after the demolition after the danger was banned. The events in the region also reported www.waz.de .
