Nadler plant in Bottrop closes: 170 jobs in danger
The news about the upcoming closure of the Nadler plant in Bottrop not only affected the employees concerned, but also hit the city itself. Mayor Bernd Tischler expressed his regret about the company's decision to close the work on Scharnhölzstrasse at the end of the year. Instead of relocating production to another location, this is the final closure that affects around 170 employees. In particular, it should be emphasized that the majority of the workforce consists of women, many of them are older and have special social and economic needs due to their many years of belonging.
In his first statement, carpenter emphasized the tradition of the company, which as a delicat cost manufacturer fit well into Bottrop's economic structure. "Nadler was a traditional brand and, as a delicat -cost manufacturer, fit well with a healthy mix of businesses in Bottrop," said the mayor. In this difficult situation, he turned directly to the employees, whose future is now uncertain. The mayor hopes that the works council and the NGG trade union, which have been committed to the concerns of the employees for a long time, can negotiate a social plan together with the employers in order to cushion the social hardships caused by the closure.
history of the Nadler plant and challenges
The future of the Nadler location has always been endangered in recent years. A closure of the work was already under discussion in 2017, but thanks to the use of the works council and the union, this could be prevented again and again. The takeover of the work by the NB Manufaktur at the end of 2022 initially fueled hopes for a positive development of jobs. However, these positive prospects have now turned out to be deceptive.
The Nadler plant, which was originally taken over by Homann in 2009, has gone through some difficulties over the years. Among other things, the works council had campaigned for employees to receive their journeyman's letter without a professional qualification, which was regarded as an important step to secure their professional perspectives. Nevertheless, the workforce is faced with the challenge in the upcoming year to reorient itself, since the closure is now within reach.
There are no concrete plans for the subsequent use of the former company premises, but the city of Bottrop has set itself the goal of promoting commercial succession. This could be a way to compensate for the loss of jobs and the associated economic consequences. It remains to be seen whether this succeeds, while the Nadler plant employees are preparing for an uncertain future.
It remains to be hoped that everyone involved will work constructively in the coming weeks and months in order to find a solution that meets the social and economic needs of the employees concerned. Tischler will contact the company management today to address the suffering of the workforce and to discuss possible next steps.
