Spectacular explosion in Bottrop: damage and shock for residents!

On Friday, October 25, 2024, the city of Bottrop was shaken by a controlled explosive of a 250-Kilogram flar-flirtger, which was discovered during construction work on Gungsstraße. The explosion, which was audible to Kirchhellen and Gelsenkirchen, led to damage to several buildings in the evacuation area. The windows sprang, roof tiles were pressed in and even an entire window front of a senior center was affected. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the city assures that all buildings remain habitable.

The residents, around 2,800 people, had to leave their houses and wait for hours outdoors for the danger. The city advises to report all damage to household and building liability insurance as quickly as possible, although such incidents are normally considered war damage. In this special case, however, they could usually be taken from goodwill, according to the district government. The explosion was necessary because the bomb find was not possible due to a complicated acidity. The entire event shows that such situations in the region are rare, but not impossible, as the district government emphasizes. Details on the damage can be found in a current report on www.radioemscherlippe.de can be read.
