Florian Kohfeldt takes over in Darmstadt: Departure into new football times

Florian Kohfeldt has taken on an important task: he is supposed to bring the Bundesliga relegation Darmstadt 98 back onto the success. The 41-year-old, known to Werder Bremen, will be officially presented as a new coach on Monday. This decision by the sports director Paul Fernie follows the resignation of Torsten Lieberknecht, who pushed the towel under pressure last week and after a disappointing season.

The presentation of Kohfeldt takes place at 11 a.m. in the press room at the Böllenfall gate. So far, no details have been published about the duration of his new contract. Kohfeldt has made a name for itself in the past, but was also associated with the relegation of Werder Bremen. After a difficult season 2020/21, he was released from the club management before the last match day after a desperate attempt to keep the class had failed.

a new beginning in Darmstadt

For Kohfeldt, this is the first coaching station in the second division after having previously managed the U23 from Werder Bremen. Most recently, the native of Siegen worked for Kas Eupen in Belgium, where he resigned after a promising start in March. His return to Bremen was strongly emotionally shaped because he has close ties to the Hanseatic city and his former club.

Kohfeldt can score as a communicator. When he arrived in Darmstadt, he was greeted with a Hessian "Gude" on the club website, although he feels more comfortable with a "moin". His previous experience has shown him that open and accessible communication between players, fans and the media is crucial for success. The trailers can expect an energetic and impulsive coaching atmosphere, similar to among its predecessors. Nevertheless, Kohfeldt has developed the ability to take back at crucial moments.

The key to courageous football

sports director Paul Fernie expressed a positive statement about Kohfeld's skills and expressed his conviction that he could help the team find stability. "He brings experience, personality and know-how to give our team stability and call up their potential," says Fernie. Kohfeldt has also made it clear that he preferred an offensive and pass -oriented way of playing. This philosophy could be helpful to stabilize the team again after a disastrous relegation season.

However, the challenge should not be underestimated. In the summer transfer period, Fernie has committed a total of eleven new players, but many of them have so far not been able to convince. The start of the new second division season was Mau, and the Darmstadt residents have so far only got one point out of four games, which also complicated the situation.

Already on Saturday Kohfeldt is facing a trend -setting game: In the basement duel you will meet Eintracht Braunschweig, who also started a weak start of the season. This game could be a first way for Kohfeldt to convince with a successful performance in office and to smooth the waves.
