Hamas receives a proposal for hostage deal: Hope for ceasefire in the Gaza War
The efforts to take a ceasefire in the Gaza war have been ongoing for months, but so far the negotiations have been unsuccessful. Now new developments could pave the way to a possible agreement.
Israel is currently examining a proposal from Hamas, which provides for a ceasefire and the release of further hostages. The mediator states USA, Qatar and Egypt confronted the Israeli negotiation team with a draft of the Islamist organization, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced. After a thorough examination of the proposal, Israel wants to send his answer to the intermediary.
Hamas has declared that he had exchanged ideas with the intermediaries to achieve the end of the war. The exact content of the Hamas proposal is not yet known, just as little as it differs from the plan that has been discussed so far.
Previous efforts to move Israel to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and reach the release of Israeli hostages were unsuccessful. President Joe Biden had presented a plan at the end of May, which Hamas had not approved and asked for changes.
The difficulties in coordination of an agreement are primarily that Hamas demands a complete end to the Gaza War, which is rejected by Israel.
The potential rapprochement of the parties through the current proposal gives hope for the end of the violent disputes in the Middle East.
