The name finding for the CFC mascot: a joint project of the fans

The Chemnitz FC family has the opportunity to actively participate in naming the new mascot. The lion, which was already presented everywhere in Chemnitz during the opening of the season, remains without official names. But now the CFC fans are required to assert their influence.

The selection of favorites

In the past few days, numerous fans have submitted creative names. A total of 87 ideas were received by email, which shows the commitment of the followers. A jury of employees of the association then selected three names that are now to be voted: "Malik", "Leo" and "Bähre".

Why did certain names not be selected

Two frequently proposed names, "Karli" and "Chris", were rejected for various reasons. The name "Karli" fits well with the city of Chemnitz and the roots of the association, but the Niners Chemnitz already wear a mascot with this name. The name "Chris" was also not chosen to avoid that a single person is put in the foreground. Sports director Chris Löwe emphasizes teamwork in the club: "Nobody is greater than this club."

The meaning of the proposed names

The name "Malik" has found a lot of response, since many Chemnitzer remembered the former lions in the Rabenstein zoo. Malik, which means "king", was known for his impressive appearance and has been a popular name in the region since his death in 2018. "Leo" is a simple and direct choice that underlines the lion symbolism, but has no specific connection to the city. The name "Bähre" honestly for the former player Jürgen Bähringer, creates a historical relationship to an important personality of the association.

The voting process

Fans now have a week to coordinate the new mascot. The vote runs until Thursday, August 8, 2024, via the online tool on the CFC fan page. The final result will be announced as part of the stadium program during the home game against FSV Zwickau on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

a strong connection to the community

This choice of name is more than just a simple process; It shows the strong connection between the association and its community. Chemnitzer FC offers its fans the opportunity to be part of a decision that helps shape the club identity. The story of Malik and the honor for Jürgen Bähringer show how deeply rooted the club is in the identity of the city.

The decision about the name of our new mascot is now in the hands of the CFC fans. It remains to be seen which name will ultimately win the favor of the majority. Click here for the new name of the CFC mascot!
