Investment in clean drinking water: Chemnitz renews historical lines

At a time when the quality of our drinking water is becoming increasingly important, Chemnitz also has reacted to ensure that the current requirements are met. The tightening of the drinking water regulation a year ago places new requirements for drinking water suppliers, which are now intensively dealing with the implementation.

An important step to comply with these regulations is the renewal of the historical pale pages in the public network. Companies like one check intensively whether there are still lead pipes in the house connection lines. This is crucial to protect the health of citizens and ensure that the drinking water corresponds to the highest quality standards.

The complexity of the approximately 1500 km long drinking water network in Chemnitz requires careful and elaborate planning. With 14 high containers and 25 pump systems, it is ensured that the water pressure remains constant and the water safely reaches consumers.

Despite the additional requirements and investments in the infrastructure, the city plans to increase water prices. However, the stricter requirements could lead to increasing costs, since the municipal health department is already afraid of bottlenecks in the existing staff for the control tasks.

It is important that those responsible in Chemnitz tackle these challenges together to ensure the safety and quality of the drinking water in the long term. Investments in the infrastructure and the regular review of the lines are crucial to do justice to the high standards and offer citizens a healthy drinking water.
