New bridge over Soeste: Parking space closure to the mayor-Heukamp-Straße

The city of Cloppenburg continues to look for alternatives for a makeshift bridge over the soeste to shorten the footpath from the mayor-Heukamp-Straße to the city center. On June 10, the city council decided that the parking lot of the hospital on Soestenstrasse should serve as an alternative for the partially locked parking lot on the mayor-Heukamp-Straße.

The cost of the makeshift bridge could be up to 216,000 euros, which led to a controversial debate. Mayor Neidhard Varnhorn emphasizes that this is the most expensive but corresponding solution. Nevertheless, cheaper alternatives are still being sought, especially after the Friesoyther Wasseracht refer to possible more economic solutions.

The city of Cloppenburg plans to have talks with the Friesoyther Wasseracht and the lower water authority of the district in order to explore the possibilities for an inexpensive solution. It is ensured that a temporary structure also corresponds to the necessary technical requirements.

The previous old pedestrian bridge, which is stored on the building yard, does not meet the technical requirements due to its small span of only eleven meters. Therefore, new options are searched to improve the connection between the Soeste and the city center without burdening the city at high costs.
