Discussion about asylum policy: Green youth calls to cancel talks
The political debate about asylum and refugee policy in Germany is becoming increasingly heated. In view of the latest statements by various political actors, the voices that demand a rethink in current asylum policy are increasing. The Green Youth in particular has terminated the dialogue with the Union and sees no sense in continuing the conversations. The co-spokeswoman of the youth organization, Katharina Stolla, explained that the Union was only to push the traffic light coalition to the right.
This turbulent political mixture finds an echo, especially in the FDP. Secretary General Djir-Sarai criticized the Greens sharply and questioned their ability to counter the country's challenges as a government party. FDP boss Christian Lindner also expressed his concerns about the attitude of the Greens and regretted their public rejection of rejection to the German borders, while discussions with various political actors are running at the same time.
growing concern and demands for changes
In the general population there is a clear concern of a new asylum policy; According to a current survey, 77 percent of those surveyed consider a fundamental turn in asylum and refugee policy necessary. Especially among the supporters of the AfD (97 percent) and CDU/CSU (86 percent), the pressure on politics is growing to make drastic changes. Even among the voters of the SPD, there is a clear majority of 65 percent that demand improvements. Conversely, the supporters of the Greens are split in this matter - 48 percent are for changes, 46 percent against it.
Another increase in problem awareness can be seen, since every second German immigration and flight is now regarded as one of the two most important political problems, which corresponds to an increase of 22 percent since April. The economic topic follows in second place. This shift in perception is reinforced by the tragic knife attack in Solingen, which demanded three lives and is considered to be Islamistically motivated. As a result, 73 percent of Germans support the introduction of permanent controls at the limits.
In addition, a dispute on the views of the various parties rages within the government on this sensitive topic. Lindner demanded more humility from the opposition, especially with regard to the ultimate of CDU boss Friedrich Merz. In the eyes of the FDP, there are also deficits in the implementation of measures led by the CDU, such as North Rhine-Westphalia, which is why criticism of the Greens may not appear justified in his eyes.
The survey results not only show a growing concern of the Germans about immigration, but also a clear demand for increased powers for security authorities, which is supported by 72 percent of those surveyed. An even higher proportion of 82 percent considers clarification and prevention about radical Islamism, especially at schools and refugee facilities, it is sensible and necessary.
The discussion about asylum and refugee policy will continue to gain intensity in the coming weeks and months, since parties and voters are wondering how a safe and decent solution to the complex challenges can be found. The political pressure on the traffic light coalition is growing and the outcome of the conversations remains uncertain.
