knowledge of climate change: differences between the generations in Germany
climate change is a topic of global importance that is increasingly attracting attention. A recently carried out international survey has provided interesting findings about how well the citizens in Germany are informed about climate change. There was an interesting difference between the generations.
The survey carried out in 35 countries, including Germany, showed that older people in Germany tend to know better about climate change than the younger generation. In comparison to other countries, the Germans performed well as a whole, but there was a striking difference between the age groups.
In August and September of last year, around 30,000 people were interviewed in different countries, including the 27 EU countries, as well as Great Britain, China, Canada, Japan, India, South Korea, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. The participants were asked about various aspects of climate change, including definition, main causes and consequences. They also had to select measures to combat climate change.
The results of the survey show that the older generation in Germany tends to be better informed than the younger one. This could be due to a stronger presence of the topic in the past. The results also illustrate the need to raise awareness of climate change in all age groups in order to take effective measures to combat this global problem.
