According to the authorities in Plateau, 132 injuries were brought to surrounding hospitals, while rescue teams were still looking for possible survivors under the ruins.

The collapse of the building was in the middle of persistent rainfall, which contributed to structural weaknesses. A thorough investigation should now clarify the exact causes of the accident while the community mourns its losses.

It is another sad chapter in the history of buildings in Nigeria, which are caused by neglect, corruption and incorrect construction. A wake -up call to rethink the security standards and to improve the protective measures for the population.
