Floating Professor Fath: Classification trip against microplastics in the Elbe

a milestone for water protection

The chemistry professor Andreas Fath from the Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences once again indicated a remarkable adventure that is intended to draw attention to the problem of microplastics in water. From August 16, he will swim through the Elbe from Smirice in the Czech Republic to Cuxhaven, a project that not only has a sporty character, but also wants to do significant educational work in the field of environmental protection.

microplastics: a pressing challenge

microplastics is a serious environmental problem that impairs the ecosystems of waters and could also affect human health. Andreas Fath is aware of the importance of this topic and uses his swimming projects to point out exactly on this. By removing water samples during his swimming, he will gain new data that can contribute to researching the dangers of microplastics in the Elbe.

use for clean water

Protecting the water and the environment with its commitment, Fath goes far beyond the sporting element. He has set himself the goal of promoting education and clarifying the public about the dangers of microplastics. "I can do that well," says Fath about his swimming capability, which enables him to spend up to eight hours in the water every day while at the same time sharpening awareness of water protection.

Together for nature

In the project "Pureelbe", Fath performs in collaboration with the non -profit organization H2org and the alliance of plastic -free nature. It is also supported by partners such as the Furtwangen University and the company Hansgrohe and Arbor. These collaborations are crucial to draw attention to the protection of the water and to bring the importance of clean rivers closer to people.

more than just an adventure

fath will swim past on various cities such as Dresden, Magdeburg and Hamburg, where he will perform workshops and seminars. Two students of the university will support his scientific studies by continuously evaluating water samples and thus contributing to the data collection.

follow the trip

The entire expedition is documented on the project website www.pureelb.org , where interested parties can pursue the progress and the withdrawal of the water samples in real time. "Every river is different", Fath expresses his anticipation of the unique experiences that the Elbe will offer him. This project is not only another success in its series of swimming adventures, but also a powerful message for environmental protection.
