Pure action in Croatia: Stunt festival inspires explosions!

in the small town of Karlovac, around 50 kilometers southwest of Zagreb, a festival is currently taking place that honors the impressive performance of stunt people in the film industry. Under the motto "Three - two - one - action!" A colorful program is offered in the Edison cinema, which includes daring stunts on the street and historical scenes from the Middle Ages. Ivan Gojmerac, director of the cinema, explains the desire to make Karlovac a weekend for Bronx and thus convey the passion for adrenaline -reloading action. The festival start fell on a Friday and impressed the spectators with spectacular chase, explosive effects and impressive shootings.

The festival has a special meaning this year, since it underlines the need to shed light on the role of stunt men and women in film production. This also happens in the context of an important innovation that the Filmakademie in Hollywood has announced: from 2028, a separate Oscar category for the best stunt design will be introduced. This decision is the result of years of efforts by stunt performers and industry professionals, which finally demanded adequate recognition of their work. The category should officially be called "Achievement in Stunt Design" and will increase the total number of Oscar categories to 24.

The introduction of the Oscar category

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has made it clear that the integration of the stunt design into the Oscar awards is of great importance. David Leitch, the former stuntman and director, plays a central role in this initiative. He has campaigned for the decisive role of stunt designers and their creative and safety-relevant articles in filmmaking. Around 100 stunt professionals, members of the Film Academy, will participate in the development of the official rules for this new category.

The stunt community is optimistic about this innovation. David Sterling, an experienced stunt coordinator, has spoken positively about the introduction and emphasizes that it is time to duly appreciate the merits of the stunt people. At the same time, he warns that aspects such as security and the integration of stunts should be taken into account in the narrative in the evaluation.

A look at the future of the Stunts

The Karlovac Festival and the newly planned Oscar category show that the importance of stunts and the associated challenges in filmmaking is increasingly in focus. The current Oscars are already being awarded in 23 categories, but the introduction of a category for stunt design and the award for "Best Casting" will illustrate the growing interest in the various aspects of film production in the coming year.

The Stunt Prize is awarded for the first time at the 100th Academy Awards in 2028 and thus represents a milestone in the history of the Oscar ceremonies. Critics fear that the addition of new categories of the prestige of the existing awards, but the Stunt Community sees a transformative way of overlooking a often overlooked art form in this appreciate.
