District road K 7409 is open again after renovation: important connection secured!
Good news for drivers and residents in the Alb-Donau district: The district road K 7409 between Hütten and Schmiechen is finally open to traffic again after months of renovation work. The district office announced this in a press release on Thursday, and many breathed a sigh of relief.
The route, which is around 5.5 kilometers long, has been closed in sections since the end of August 2025. Originally, a comprehensive expansion of the road was planned, which would have included, among other things, widening the road, straightening curves and modern bus stops. But the project encountered a number of obstacles: difficulties in acquiring land, strict ecological requirements and the need for flood protection measures significantly extended the schedule.
Renovation work in detail
Instead of a complete expansion, the work focused on replacing the asphalt surface, repairing damaged areas and replacing water passages. In addition, cement shoulders were created as alternative areas on the side of the road. These measures made it possible for residents to reach their properties on the other side during construction. A full closure was only necessary on the day the asphalt was laid. The total costs of the renovation amounted to around 900,000 euros and are therefore considered sensible.
In their statements, District Administrator Heiner Scheffold and Mayor Ulrich Ruckh emphasized the great importance of the road between the Alb-Donau district and the Reutlingen district. The renovation makes a significant contribution to improving traffic safety and accessibility to the surrounding areas.
Changeable building history
Construction work on the K 7409 started on August 25th and comprised two construction phases. First, the section between Hütten and Teuringshofen, including the through town, was renovated, followed by work up to the level crossing in front of Schmiechen. Residents were still able to drive to their homes, while regional traffic was rerouted, mainly via the Hütten-Justingen-Schelklingen route. The construction period was scheduled to last six to eight weeks, depending on the weather conditions.
Such renovations are not only important locally. The condition of some roads also poses supra-regional challenges, such as in Hesse, where numerous construction projects are planned on federal, state and district roads in order to increase traffic safety and repair damage caused by age-related loss of substance. Many districts are showing similar commitment to their redevelopment efforts.[ Hesse Mobile ] reports here on extensive investments.
The completion of K 7409 is another example of the valuable progress being made in the region to improve infrastructure and improve the quality of life for local residents. A good hand has been demonstrated here, and all passengers and residents will ultimately benefit from these investments.
