Abor & Tynna conquer ESC preliminary decision: Germany cheered!

Basel, Schweiz - On March 2, 2025, the contribution for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Basel was announced. Germany is represented by the sibling duo Abor & Tynna, which is the preliminary decision "Chef's matter ESC 2025-who sings for Germany?" have won. The moderator Barbara Schöneberger announced the victory of the duo, which comes from the Bornemisza musical family and originally comes from Vienna. Her father is a cellist with the Vienna Philharmonic, which is already used during the competition. The title of her ESC song, "Baller", combines pop, hip-hop and electronic elements, and was described as "the youngest song" in the competition by Stefan Raab, who was entrusted with the organization of the preliminary decision.

In an exciting final, Abor & Tynna prevailed against five other acts after they were selected in previous rounds of Raab and a jury. This selection method was re-established this year to find a potential ESC winner. Around 3,300 applications were received, and the number of candidates was gradually reduced until only a few were left. Raab, who was part of the last winning team with Lena Meyer-Landrut at the last German ESC participation in 2010, is considered an ESC specialist and is responsible for the German contribution after a long break.

difficult ESC balance and hopes for the future

Germany's balance sheet at the Eurovision Song Contest has been disappointing and shaped by many last or penultimate places since 2015. But there were also bright spots: the 4. Platz for Michael Schulte in 2018 and the 12th place for Isaak in the previous year were special success. The year 2024, which brought the 12th place with Isaak Guderian and his pop song "Always on the Run", was a hopeful turn.

The selection of the duo Abor & Tynna in the preliminary decision brings new hope for German participation in the ESC. Her musical style combines modern electric elements with catchy hooklines and gives German representation a breath of fresh air. Stefan Raab and a top -class jury, which included music greats such as Yvonne Catterfeld, Conchita Wurst and Nico Santos, were responsible for the final selection.

a struggle for success

The preliminary decision began due to a “focal point” between US President Donald Trump and the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj with a delay of 10 minutes. The participants initially performed with cover versions before they presented their actual ESC song. The folk metal band fire tail was traded as a favorite, but was eliminated before the "superfinals". The selection for this superfinals was made exclusively by the jury, while the audience decided on the last five and the winner.

Germany, which has been participating in the ESC since 1956, has won two victories since the last in 2010. In view of the poor positions in recent years, including the last place in 2023 with the band Lord of the Lost, the victory of Abor & Tynna is an important step. The ESC will take place in Basel on May 17, 2025 and Germany already has a safe place in the final because it is one of the largest donors in the competition.

The victory of Abor & Tynna is not only a success for the siblings who recorded their first joint song in 2016 and toured Nina Chuba in 2024, but could also be a new beginning for German participation in the ESC. The audience can look forward to the presentation of "Baller" and the return of a strong German voice to the international stage.
