Stefan Raab causes excitement: Germany at the ESC 2025 disappointed!
Basel, Schweiz - On May 17, 2025, the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 took place in Basel. The German contribution was presented by the duo Abor & Tynna, under the responsibility of Stefan Raab. Raab, a long-time ESC expert, is considered one of the main responsible for the selection of these artists. His goal is to help Germany again after 15 years of experience with lean placements. Despite his experience, which, among other things, culminated with Lena's Triumph in 2010, became disappointing this year. Germany took 15th place with only 74 points and thus marked the worst placement of a contribution supervised by Raab.
Before the competition, Raab was active in Basel to advertise the duo. On May 15, he caused a sensation during a live appearance by the band Juicy Lemon Club by suddenly entering the stage and playing the German ESC song "Baller" with his own band. The action, which was titled on Instagram as a "Jam session", met with shared reactions. While some fans appreciated the attention of the Juicy Lemon Club, other critical voices reported that Raabs found behavior as disrespectful
negative response and responsibility
Stefan Raab took responsibility for the disappointing result of the German contribution. In a statement, he commented frustrated about the cutting and the associated criticism. The ESC final was characterized by various musical styles and appearances from 20 different countries. Austria prevailed significantly this year and won with 436 points through the contribution by JJ. Israel achieved second place with 357 points, while Switzerland, which was also unable to score, ended up in the end.
The jury points led to Austria, followed by Switzerland and France, while Denmark only received two points from the spectators. A remarkable incident occurred during the appearance of Israel when two people tried to storm the stage and stopped by the police. Nevertheless, the show was a colorful event that was moderated by Michelle Hunziker, Hazel Brugger and Sandra Studer.
Stefan Raabs ESC background
Stefan Raab is not only an entertainer, but also a formative figure in the German ESC business. Already in 1998 he sent Guildo Horn and 2004 Max Mutzke on stage and celebrated various successes. His great victory came in 2010 when Lena won the contest for Germany. Due to his previous services, Raab is often referred to as Germany's ESC king. After a brief return to the ESC world for the preliminary decision in 2012, he withdrew and then brought back to the public.
Although the results did not achieve the desired goal this year, Raab's influence on the German music landscape and the ESC remains undisputed because he acted as a composer, moderator and strategist for generations. His commitment to the competition shows the unchanged enthusiasm that has shaped it over the years.
