70 injured at Riderman: Investigations after mass fall in Bad Dürrheim
A shock for the cycling community: During the third stage of the Riderman in Bad Dürrheim, an unprecedented mass fall occurred, injuring around 70 participants. The incident happened in a left-hand bend on the district road between Bad Dürrheim and Biesingen. Black Forest messenger reported that 38 of the injured suffered more serious injuries and were taken to clinics. Fortunately, many cyclists were able to leave hospitals the same day and no life-threatening injuries were reported.
After the incident, police and public prosecutors began investigating the cause of the accident. The results are sobering: The investigations did not reveal any criminal misconduct. According to the analysis of video files, no external influence, such as by spectators, was responsible for the fall. A single race participant fell, triggering a chain reaction that resulted in numerous other injuries. The person responsible cannot be held liable as liability claims are covered by the organizer's registration and implementation regulations.
