Zepfenhan celebrates 750 years: A festival full of music and history!

The tranquil community of Zepfenhan is about to have a very special celebration: on June 28th and 29th, 2025 the town will celebrate its 750th birthday. This impressive number invites you to look at the history and changes of the small village, which has been a district of Rottweil since 1974.

The first mention of Zepfenhan as “Epfenhaan” in a papal document dates back to 1275. What many people don't know: The small town originally lived from agriculture and only consisted of a few buildings around the church. During the 14th century, Zepfenhan became part of the Counts of Hohenberg and later the village came under the care of the Rottenmünster Imperial Abbey in the 15th century. An important chapter in history is the emigration of almost 300 citizens in the 18th century who sought their fortune in the new world.

Celebrations for the 750th birthday

The anniversary festivities begin on Saturday, June 28, at 4 p.m. with musical entertainment. The ceremonial tapping of the keg is planned for 4:30 p.m. and will be accompanied by speeches from the mayor Michaela Oettle and mayor Christian Ruf. In the evening, visitors can look forward to an atmospheric party evening with the “Treeman Brothers” from 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, June 29th, there will be a service on the festival grounds at 10 a.m., with music provided by the Zepfenhan church choir. This part of the festival promises to strengthen the community and show the solidarity of the residents, similar to the past when the place was characterized by community life and tradition.

Zepfenhan – A place with charm

Zepfenhan is picturesquely located on the Lias plateau on the edge of the Swabian Alb, surrounded by forests, meadows and fields. The quiet place attracts people who want to enjoy the silence of nature and the view of the Alb mountains. The Hohenzollern rises above the villages with its imposing imperial castle in the distance.

With an average of 540 to 600 residents, Zepfenhan has seen a steady birth rate since 2015 and plans to develop a new development area called Immengärtle with an area of around three hectares to meet the needs of the growing community. Historical milestones such as the official establishment of a fire department in 1886 and the electrification of the village between 1909 and 1912 are just a few aspects that make Zepfenhan a lively place that, despite its quiet location, also keeps pace with modern developments.

The renovation of the church tower in 1984 ensures that the village still looks youthful and lets the history of the place shine in a new light. Zepfenhan may be small, but his heart beats big and strong - this will also become clear on his 750th birthday.
