EHC Freiburg strengthens defense: Kühnhauser comes from Rosenheim!

A breath of fresh air is blowing through the ice hockey scene: EHC Freiburg has signed a promising defender in Kilian Kühnhauser. The 20-year-old is moving from Starbulls Rosenheim and brings a lot of development potential with him. As a left-wing shooter, Kühnhauser showed impressive performances in the DEL2 last season, having already taken his first steps in this league in the 2022/23 season. In the new season he will wear the Wolves jersey with the number 95 and those responsible are excited to see how he will fit into the team.

Kühnhauser has gone through all the youth stages at his hometown club and is considered one of the talents who could make a name for himself in German ice hockey. However, one of his biggest challenges lies ahead of him, because the move to the DEL2 also represents a new experience. Particularly worth mentioning is his participation in the 2025 U20 World Cup in Ottawa, where he gained the trust of the national team coaches. Sports director Peter Salmik emphasizes his sense of responsibility and impressive game intelligence.

Starbulls Rosenheim relies on continuity

While the Starbulls Rosenheim are processing Kühnhauser's departure, the squad planning is already showing progress. The club has strengthened itself with Dominik Tiffels, a 31-year-old defender who played a crucial role in defense last season. Tiffels, who moved from Bayreuth to Rosenheim a year ago, has quickly developed into a central part of the team. With 65 appearances in the DEL2 and a total of over 500 games in the highest and second highest leagues in Germany, Tiffels brings a lot of experience.

Speaking of experience, Tiffels contributed five goals last season and was known for being a calm presence on the ice. Together with Tobias Beck, he formed a strong defensive duo and his contribution, particularly in blocking shots, is often highlighted. With 69 blocked shots, he ranks fourth on the team.

A look at the DEL2

The German Ice Hockey League 2 (DEL2) is enjoying growing popularity and has been in operation since the 2013/2014 season. It is the second highest ice hockey league in Germany and offers talented players like Kühnhauser and Tiffels a platform to prove themselves. The league currently has 14 clubs, including Starbulls Rosenheim and EHC Freiburg, who are approaching the next season with anticipation with their squads and lineups.

The coming months promise exciting games and possibly a few upsets as the teams prepare for the new season. The fans can look forward to seeing how the newcomers and established players develop. So we can only hope that they all develop their potential and captivate the audience!
