Motorcycle magic: Ortenburg group conquers the Pyrenees!

In bright sunshine and a pinch of adventure, a group of twelve motorcycle enthusiasts from Ortenburg set out to explore the famous Pyrenees. On an impressive route of 4,600 kilometers, the participants not only experienced winding roads, but also the beauty of southern France and the Spanish mountains. This tour, which began on June 30, 2025, took the group over magnificent passes to the rugged Atlantic coast and back.

The journey started in Ortenburg, where the first kilometers led along the wonderful back roads to Freiburg im Breisgau. We stayed here for the first night to prepare for the upcoming adventure. On the second day we continued via the picturesque towns of Colmar and Bourg-lès-Valence until the group reached the Rhône Valley.

The highlights of the Pyrenees

The third day led through the impressive Ardèche and the famous Tarn Gorge. With destinations like Argelès-sur-Mer, on the Mediterranean coast, the group reached temperatures of 36 degrees, which further fueled anticipation for the Pyrenees adventure. On the fourth day, the crossing of the Pyrenees began over the Col de Losa, a spectacular pass that immersed the participants in another world. Here they crossed the Port d’Envalira, the highest passable pass in the Pyrenees, which rises to 2,408 meters and offers a breathtaking view.

A real highlight of the tour was the ride over the famous Col du Tourmalet, which, at 2,115 meters high, is not only one of the most famous columns of the Tour de France and professional cycling, but is also very popular with both bikers and cyclists due to its breathtaking landscapes. The two routes, one from Luz-Saint-Sauveur and one from La Mongie, offer riders challenging climbs and numerous hairpin bends.

Community and culture

After the exciting day on the high passes, the group took a motorbike-free day in Jaca to explore the town and hang out by the pool. The journey continued via the French Basque Country before Pamplona, ​​known for its old town and lively atmosphere, was on the plan. Here the participants experienced Basque culture up close. The next few kilometers led through the picturesque landscape of the Bordeaux region, where the longest daily stage of almost 600 kilometers was covered.

On the tenth day the return to Freiburg was on the agenda, where the old town and the impressive Freiburg Cathedral were visited. The last day took the bikers who were keen to travel via the Black Forest to Ulm and then through Munich back to Ortenburg. Overall, the group can look back on an unforgettable tour, which was not only characterized by impressive landscapes and many meters in altitude, but also by shared experiences.

With a record of more than 4,600 kilometers driven, it is clear that the passion for motorcycling is strong in the group. The MSC Ortenburg is already planning to go on tour together again next year to experience new adventures and perhaps discover one or two hidden pearls in the Pyrenees.

The Pyrenees region itself offers a variety of experiences for motorcyclists, from majestic mountains to deep valleys to clear lakes, creating the ideal terrain for two-wheeled adventures.
