Fatal crash on B3: Alcoholized driver with seven inmates!

In a shocking night on May 3, 2025, there was a tragic traffic accident on the B3/B31 towards Freiburg, in which a 46-year-old driver crashed on a parked truck at high speed. The impact was so violent that the vehicle caught fire immediately. Despite the quick help of passers-by who saved all seven occupants, including four small children between the ages of 3 and 13, two people-a 27-year-old man and a six-year-old child-were not able to escape their serious injuries and died at the scene of the accident. Another child died in the hospital a short time later.

First investigations have shown that the vehicle, an Opel Insignia, transported three adults and four children, although it was designed for only five people. An alcohol concentration of 1.4 per thousand was found for the driver, and it is currently in inpatient treatment. The traffic police and the Freiburg public prosecutor continue to carry out extensive investigations into the exact cause of the accident, while the property damage is estimated to be an average five -digit amount. The B3/B31 was closed for more than an hour while the rescue workers worked on site.
