Successful youth work in Efringen-Kirchen: waiting list continues to grow!
In Efringen-Kirchen, the gymnastics and sports club (TuS) held a remarkable general meeting that highlighted both the successes of the past few years and the challenges in the future. Ralf Schörlin, who has been chairman since 2013 and has been on the board since 1999, was re-elected and emphasized the importance of the support from the board team and donors. The good cooperation with the community was particularly praised, and the association is optimistic about the future.
The club is in the green when it comes to finances, as the auditors confirmed in their audit. With five active teams and a women's team, which will only form a playing group with Binzen in the new season, the TuS is showing positive development. A total of 500 children and young people are now members of the association, which has led to the creation of a waiting list that has existed for years. In particular, 230 children are active in the football department and 110 children and young people have joined the department in athletics. The association's growth arouses great interest: 200 new members were gained last year.
Focus on youth work
Youth work plays a central role in TuS Efringen-Kirchen. Youth leader Thomas Steinmetz reported on the high demand for the numerous youth groups that have established themselves in the club. Special mention was made of a large youth tournament, which was a “huge success” with around 800 children in 60 teams, as well as a two-day soccer tournament in which around 300 children and 50 teams took part. Despite this influx, a partial freeze on admissions has now been imposed in order to maintain the quality of work in the youth sector. There are currently 31 children on the waiting list for the athletics department.
The TuS actively promotes health through exercise, games and sport in order to develop the children not only physically but also personally. The young people benefit from the social community in the club as well as from the 70 dedicated youth coaches who take care of supporting the young talents. Quality standards and a salutogenic approach help ensure that health aspects in sport are not neglected. Health education is very important here, and the positive effects of sporting activities on the self-esteem and social integration of the youngest members should not be underestimated.
A strong team
The elections during the meeting brought several new faces to the board. Newly elected were Simon Diodene as Chairman of Communications, Serena Kölblin as Head of Department for Active and Youth and Anh Tuan Dang as Head of Department for Active Athletics. The fees have been increased to ensure the club's financial support: members of the athletics department and parents who do not help will in future have to pay 80 euros annually.
In their speeches, Mayor Carolin Holzmüller and Deputy Mayor Karl Rühl praised the excellent cooperation with the TuS and the continuous development in the area of youth and sports support. In view of the positive developments and the committed work of the association, Efringen-Kirchen faces a promising future that opens up numerous opportunities for children and young people. The TuS Efringen-Kirchen continues to be a role model in region-wide youth work.
