German-French friendship: An anniversary full of cultural highlights!

Their preparatory work has made a decisive contribution to promoting French culture and language in the region and to intensifying exchanges between members and the wider public. In 2019, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron signed a bilateral friendship agreement that provides for the creation of Franco-German cultural institutes. This agreement was initiated as part of the Aachen Treaty and aims to further strengthen the cultural ties between Germany and France. The establishment of these cultural ensembles is organized in the Goethe-Institut network in order to enable exchange between cultural workers across borders.

The Goethe-Institut, the Foreign Office and the French Foreign Ministry are working together to implement these goals.
