Traditional Hotel Rebgarten in Ravensburg closes after bankruptcy!
The news about the closure of the traditional Hotel Rebgarten in Ravensburg is making the rounds. Due to bankruptcy, which officially opened on October 1, 2025, the hotel is about to cease operations. Operations will cease as early as November 1, 2025 after all employees have been terminated. This move is the result of a long battle against last-minute cancellations and rising costs while sales continued to decline. The application to open insolvency proceedings was filed on August 7, 2025, and Michael Wahl from the PLUTA law firm was appointed as provisional insolvency administrator. Merkur reports that the hotel is currently continuing to operate with 30 rooms and 62 beds, but there are no interested parties available to take over.
As we know, the problems did not come suddenly. Around 100 bookings for November and December have already been canceled, which further exacerbated the hotel's situation. It has been shown that the income in the autumn and winter months is not sufficient to cover the running costs and since no deposits were required from guests, there is no financial loss to them. What was particularly serious was the fact that there was no agreement on a new rental agreement between the landlord and the potential buyer.
A difficult farewell for Ravensburg
The closure of the Hotel Rebgarten is not only the end of a hotel, but also the end of numerous jobs and a piece of tradition in Ravensburg. Not only is it a defeat for the owners, but it also affects the employees who have ensured the hotel's good reputation for a long time. The circumstances that led to the bankruptcy are unfortunately exemplary of the challenges that many hotels in the industry face: increasing operating costs without a corresponding increase in sales.
With the closure of the Hotel Rebgarten, competition among the hotels in the region is also high, which further reduces the chances of a takeover. In a market where margins are tight, having a good hand is crucial. Unfortunately, this situation shows that even the most traditional houses are not immune to bankruptcy.
A look at the market
Developments in the hotel sector are not only worrying for Ravensburg, but reflect a trend that other cities are also experiencing. In order to be successful in such a tense market, companies have to adapt and continually develop innovative concepts. The importance of solid financial backing and flexible rental agreements cannot be overemphasized. The current challenges are a wake-up call for the entire industry, because what once seemed stable can suddenly falter.
The closure of Hotel Rebgarten will certainly be a topic of conversation in the region in the coming weeks and months, and the impact on employment and tourism will need to be monitored. It remains to be hoped that the industry will get back on its feet soon, and perhaps Ravensburg will also have new opportunities to be successful in a changing market.
