But the ice cream parlor “Gelatopia” in Ravensburg’s Weststadt goes against the trend and wants to stay open even in the cold months. Loud Swabian The Cökmez and Güzel families are the operators of this unique ice cream parlor, which only opened in July after the previous cleaning company moved out.

The location of the ice cream parlor at MitteLöschstrasse 16 couldn't be better: there are schools and a retirement home in the immediate vicinity, which increases its attractiveness for a large number of customers. Serkan Güzel highlights that the weekly market on Thursday also plays an important role in customer flow. Open every day except Mondays, Gelatopia refreshes with a small, fine selection of ice cream and other delicacies such as crepes, bubble waffles and nut wedges. There are also hearty dishes such as bean stew and Swabian-Turkish Maultaschen.

Winter ice trends

More and more ice cream parlors in Germany, even in large cities, have decided to open all year round. But it's not just Gelatopia that has this strategy: the Gelati ice cream parlor in Koblenz also remains open in winter and benefits from its proximity to the Christmas market stalls, while the Dolce Vita ice cream parlor offers special winter flavors and outdoor heaters. On the other hand, there are also ice cream parlors, such as the Rigoni ice cream parlor in Trier, which have to close in winter due to low sales.

Another highlight in Ravensburg’s Weststadt is the “Duman” shisha bar, which only reopened in September after a year and a half break.
