Tradition and community: Corpus Christi procession delights Rottweil!

On June 9th, Catholics in Rottweil traditionally celebrated the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, known as Corpus Christi. The procession is festive and moves through the city center, a special event for the believers. As the NRWZ reported, the event began at 8:45 a.m. in front of the cathedral, where guilds and the city band gathered in Oberamteigasse.

The starting signal was fired at 9 a.m. for the procession, which led lively through Obere Hauptstrasse to the Bockshof. The participants marched through the streets with lanterns and flags to the sonorous melodies of the city band. The planned route led via the Straßekreuz and Untere Hauptstraße to Lorenzgasse before reaching the Bockshof, where the mass celebration took place. The Church website highlights that believers from different communities, including Italian, Croatian and Polish, took part together in this important day.

Solemn mass and sermon

In the Bockshof, Pastor Timo Weber celebrated the Eucharist and spoke in his sermon about the living bread, as it is described in the Gospel of John (John 6:51-58). He reminded those present of the importance of sharing bread and life and criticized the increasing selfishness in today's society, which leads to loneliness. After the solemn mass, which was musically accompanied by the cathedral choir and the cathedral boys' choir, there was a magnificent return to the city center, during which the procession led back to the cathedral through the same streets.

A highlight of the return was the atmospheric atmosphere, which was characterized by the firecrackers fired by the vigilante group and the carrying of the baroque sun monstrance by Pastor Weber, while the representatives of the 15 active craftsmen's guilds ceremoniously accompanied with lanterns and guild flags. The Croatian community built an altar in front of the town hall, where the procession stopped.

Community and sociability

After returning to the cathedral, the believers received the final blessing from Pastor Weber. As the Archdiocese of Cologne As noted, Corpus Christi Day plays a central role in the Catholic faith and is a celebration of encounters that strengthens community.

The celebrations concluded with a drink in front of the cathedral, where the participants chatted and brought the day to a pleasant end. Traditions like Corpus Christi Day help to strengthen togetherness and a sense of community and show that sharing moments and celebrating faith is an integral part of life in Rottweil.
