Turtle Gabi exposed in Kellinghusen - looking for a whistle!

Kellinghusen, Schleswig-Holstein, Deutschland - in Kellinghusen, Schleswig-Holstein, caused a sensation to discover a twelve-kilogram vulture turtle. The animal welfare organization PETA has suspended a reward of 500 euros in order to obtain information on the previous owner of the turtle. According to PETA specialist Peter Höffken, it is incomprehensible how such a dangerous animal can be exposed, because such animals do not escape by themselves.

The turtle was found in the Stör River when workers came across the animal during a chess cleaning. This type of turtle is classified as dangerous in Germany due to a nationwide stopping ban. Her great biting may make it a danger to people and other animals.

The new resident of the animal protection center

Christian Erdmann, the ward manager of the wildlife and species protection center in Klein Offeneth-Sparrieshoop, took care of the turtle and gave her the name Gabi. Erdmann emphasizes that the turtle was deliberately exposed to the river. The identity of the suspender has so far been unknown.

It is important to know that vulture turtles can reach an impressive armored length of 60 to 70 centimeters and have a weight of up to 100 kilograms. About a year ago, a similar turtle was discovered in Baden-Württemberg, which caused the police to remind caution and point out that dangerous animals are often exposed. Höffken urgently appeals to the population to provide information on the last obsessed animal.

call for help

The suspension of such dangerous animals such as the vulture turtle is not only an animal welfare problem, but also a security risk for the general public. PETA therefore calls on all citizens to report with suspicious sightings and references to the former owner of Gabizexen. The reward of 500 euros could be an incentive to share information about this incident and thus identify a potential danger.
