The city of Aalen faces a huge challenge: From 2026, the number of refugees who need to be accommodated will increase drastically! UN refugee aid warns that the global escape numbers are on a record high. In a meeting of the municipal council, the details of the admission are discussed today after the LEA privilege falls away.

Currently 1,549 refugees are already living in Aalen, most of them from Ukraine. The city administration emphasizes that a uniform distribution of the refugees in all districts is decisive for social integration. 1,222 people are currently housed in private living space, while 327 live in urban institutions.

Preparation for rising numbers

The forecasts are alarming: Aalen has to absorb new refugees between 188 and 308! The city plans to transfer responsibility for the integration from the social welfare office to the integration office in order to optimize the organization. In addition, the municipal housing association will play a central role in providing living space for the new newcomers.

In order to support integration, additional positions in integration management are also to be created. The city has already planned 40,000 euros for a new software for accommodation management. In addition, 170,000 euros are planned for the tasks of the housing association in the household 2025 in order to create and manage the urgently needed accommodations.
