Metal industry at the limit: Employers warn of strike chaos!

Ulm, Deutschland - The tension in the German metal and electrical industry reaches a new highlight! With a deafening whistle and determined slogans, the IG Metall employees took the factory gate in Ulm, the Alb-Donau district and Biberach. The employers are anything but enthusiastic. "The economic situation is catastrophic," warns Oliver Wirth, chairman of the Südwestmetall district group Ulm. He sees the union's tariff policy as a "crowbar", which is out of place in these difficult times. ULM-News reports that the employer has already put an offer on the table that provides for an increase in tariff charges by 3.6 percent. But IG Metall demands a whopping seven percent!

Hardly the obligation to peace had expired, when the warning strikes started all over Germany. In Stuttgart, around 6,000 employees gathered at the gates of Porsche to emphasize their claims. With these actions, IG Metall wants to increase the pressure on the stuck negotiations. "Without the pressure of the colleagues, little is moving," explains Nadine Boguslawski, head of the IG Metall, to Tagesschau.de . The union argues that the employees should earn more money after the long period of inflation to boost private consumption.

warning strikes in an economically difficult location

The employers' associations see the claims of IG Metall as completely overwhelmed. "The metal and electrical industry is in free fall," warns overall metal president Stefan Wolf. The employers fear that the union's claims could lead to a location disadvantage and job reduction. But Boguslawski, on the other hand, keeps: "Companies that were not economically not good have always had the opportunity to pay or reduce pay components later."

no agreement in sight

While the strikes continue, negotiations are in full swing. But an agreement is not in sight. The regional employers' associations have set different negotiation days. Northern Germany is negotiated today, Bavaria will follow on Wednesday and Baden-Württemberg on Thursday. However, both sides do not expect a solution in this third round of negotiations. Overall metal president Wolf sees the union on the train: "We have made a fair offer. Now IG Metall has to come to us."

ig metal is confident

The IG Metall remains unimpressed and relies on a high strike involvement in order to go into the negotiations strengthened. "There are only warning strikes because the employees have the need to demonstrate," explains Boguslawski. Four million employees have been called up in the coming days - a clear signal on the employer side that the union is serious. The coming days promise to be exciting while both sides are trying to enforce their positions.
