Network booster construction site in Kupferzell: Official opening of TransnetBW
TransnetBW celebrated the official opening of the network booster construction site in Kupferzell. Prominent guests such as Dr. Werner Götz, CEO of TransnetBW, Thekla Walker, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Energy Industry of the State of Baden-Württemberg, and Mayor Christoph Spieles.
The network booster is an innovative technology that is used in the system management to ensure a safe and resilient power grid. With the network booster, the transmission network can be utilized higher in the future and thus reduce costs for network management. At the same time, security of supply is maintained.
The system is built by general entrepreneur Fluence and uses lithium-ion battery technology that has already proven itself. The network booster acts as a safety buffer for the power grid and enables a higher load on the existing network without needing additional power lines. In the event of a fault, the battery storage can provide energy in seconds.
The construction of the network booster also has local effects on the municipality of Kupferzell. Mayor Christoph Spieles emphasized the importance of the project for climate protection and the opportunity to become known as an energy transition community. Consideration and critical questions were cleared in intensive dialogue with TransnetBW.
After the speeches and the symbolic construction site opening, guests had the opportunity to find out more about the current status and the next steps of the project. A guided tour also made a look at the construction site.
The network booster makes an important contribution to the energy transition and enables sustainable and stable energy supply for Baden-Württemberg. Further information on the network booster is available on the TransnetBW website.
