Troiling round Air safety: ver.di demands negotiable offer of employers
In the fifth round of collective bargaining for around 25,000 employees in the air security area, the United Service Union (ver.di) from the Federal Association of Air Safety Authority (BDLS) calls for a negotiating offer. The employers had recently offered less than half of what the employees demand. If no negotiable offer is presented, ver.di does not rule out further industrial action.
In February 2024, ver.di had already called up employees in the air security area at several German commercial airports on all -day strikes. The airports Hamburg, Bremen, Hanover, Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Dresden, Erfurt, Frankfurt and Stuttgart were affected. In this current collective bargaining round, ver.di calls for a wage increase of 2.80 euros per hour, higher functional allowances and overtime surcharges from the first overtime. The collective agreement should have a term of twelve months.
The ver.di union would like to compensate for the loss of purchasing power of the employees due to the high inflation. The rising prices for food and energy primarily put a strain on the lower wage groups. It is the goal of ver.di to make the work of the air security forces financially attractive in order to gain and maintain skilled workers. There is already a lack of qualified workers who are ready to work around the clock on weekends, celebrations and holidays. The security in air traffic is not available for free, said Wolfgang Pieper, negotiator of ver.di.
ver.di negotiator Wolfgang Pieper can be reached on 0171.225.11.89 for questions.
