First snow in Baden-Württemberg: Feldberg enchants in autumn!
Baden-Württemberg is currently experiencing a winter surprise in early autumn. The first snowfall of the year on the Feldberg, one of the highest mountains in the Black Forest, took care of itself. With the meteorological beginning of autumn on September 1 and the actual winter start, the temperatures only seem to anticipate the winter. The first snow recently fell in Germany on Monday, and up to 150 centimeters of fresh snow were expected in the Alps. On Friday the first flakes started on the Feldberg.
The snowflakes that fell on Friday morning were more a mix of rain and snow, but they announce the approaching winter weather. In the early morning, the temperature on the Feldberg was measured at zero degrees, which was not enough to form a blanket of snow. Nevertheless, it stays frosty on the approximately 1,400 meter high mountain. The German Weather Service (DWD) announced that the temperatures were around -0.2 degrees in the morning and the snowfall limit is currently around 1,200 meters.
snow and cold: A look at the weather development
Although the snowfall on Friday morning was not a significant one, the DWD predicts that the landscape could possibly be "swallowed" if the temperatures continue to decrease. In comparison, the average lowest maximum in September last year was around 7.2 degrees Celsius, without snow. These strong differences should not be overrated because the weather can be very changeable in September.
With the advancing weekend, the residents in Baden-Württemberg must continue to expect cool air and isolated rain showers. It is advisable to get sweaters out of the closet and keep an umbrella ready. The fresh north-sea air ensures this cool weather, but could also bring some isolated patterns. Despite the wet sections, there will also be sunny moments that loosen the day.
On Saturday a cheerful day awaits us, but the morning values will be relatively fresh at five to seven degrees. Caution is particularly required in the Swabian Alb, since local frost could be created here. However, it gets milder during the day and the sun is becoming increasingly evident. While Sunday temperatures rises to about 15 degrees and also offers some sunny sections, the early morning cold remains a trademark.
The prospects for milder temperatures
The weather conditions rotate in the new week, with some rain to be expected. But from the middle of the week, the residents of Baden-Württemberg can look forward to friendlier weather again, with maximum daily levels of pleasant 21 degrees. However, it will continue to be foggy in the morning, which may be perceived as a fresh entry into the day. The 100-year-old calendar also gives initial information on the coming winter season.
Current developments and forecasts thus show that winter influence in Baden-Württemberg can be felt, while the region is confronted with rapidly changing weather conditions. The DWD remains on the pulse of the meteorological events and keeps the citizens up to date.
