Black and red on the upswing: FDP is urging education and economic reforms!

In Baden-Württemberg, developments in the political landscape are emerging, which may have far-reaching consequences. The FDP could quickly agree a coalition agreement with the CDU. In public, both parties show a clear shoulder. Hans-Ulrich Rülke, the FDP faction leader, actively participates in events of the CDU, which underlines the intersections between the parties, especially in educational policy.

A black and yellow majority in the state parliament for March 2026 seems unlikely, while the FDP could worry about the re-entry to parliament in view of the current survey values. According to an infratest dimap survey, the FDP is only 4 percent, well below the 8.3 percent, which it reached in the 2016 election. With a view of a possible new edition of a grand coalition, as it existed from 1966 to 1972 and from 1992 to 1996, an exciting campaign situation indicates. The election campaign at the federal level has so far shaped attention in the political arena. In addition, the FDP parliamentary group leader Rülke criticizes the SPD about what potential hurdles builds up for a rapprochement. A survey shows that 77 percent of respondents are satisfied with the green politician Cem Özdemir, in contrast to only 13 percent who have positive views of hail. Andreas Stoch, the SPD state and parliamentary group leader, is also faced with only 33 percent approval in his party base, which requires a persuasion for working with the CDU.

demands for reforms

In parallel to the political upheavals, there is an open letter directed by cities, municipalities, companies and banks to the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg. In this, the reduction of bureaucratic hurdles and the implementation of social and economic reforms is urgently required. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Rülke has commented on this matter and appeals to politics to take the requests seriously. He criticizes the fatigue of the government officials, in particular the Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, in the implementation of required standard lowering and evaluates the level of education as falling and digitization as stagnating. Rülke calls for a "defibrillator" for the existing challenges.

In addition, Niko Reith, the economic policy spokesman for the FDP/DVP parliamentary group, supports the fire letter. He considers the Baden-Württemberg business location to be stagnating and criticizes the state government for its preoccupation with minor matters as well as the growth of bureaucracy and over-regulation. Reith calls for unleashing the economy and new framework conditions, whereby the focus should be on education, innovation, modernization and digitization of the administration. At the same time, he warns that prosperity is not a matter of course and could be in danger if no new ideas are developed.
