Kapfenburg Castle: Hotel plans put on hold-is there still hope?
Kapfenburg Castle: Hotel plans put on hold-is there still hope?
in a fascinating architectural ensemble, which is known as a landmark in the Ostalb district, is the Kapfenburg Castle. This impressive institution combines art, culture and education and is becoming increasingly popular as a conference center and as a goal for numerous visitors. Nevertheless, the Kapfenburg has a challenge to cope with: the lack of space. In order to meet the diverse claims, additional space is urgently needed.
In 2021, considerations were therefore made to expand the castle to expand a hotel to offer more accommodation. But the current developments are sobering. Academy director Moritz von Woellwarth said that the plans for expansion are currently on hold. Despite the already existing building permits and positive reviews on the part of the State Monument Office, the foundation has not received any money, which hinders the realization of the ideas.
Details on the planned expansion
The project vision includes an underground building that is supposed to extend between the forestry championship and the Lorenzkapelle. In this complex, a ground floor, two underground floors with a total of 22 double rooms and one technical floor are planned. These rooms that are said to have windows in the shooting range look could significantly expand the accommodation offer of the Kapfenburg. The original cost estimates were around 10.5 million euros, but it is feared that prices have now increased.
The Kapfenburg currently offers 123 beds in 47 different rooms. The new expansion could not only be generated, but also an improvement in the existing infrastructure. The demands of the guests have changed over the years, and multi -bed rooms are no longer as attractive as before. Therefore, Woellwarth recognizes a clear need for modern double rooms as part of the expansion.
A growing demand for conference rooms
The Kapfenburg has established itself as a popular conference center in recent years. Companies and organizations are increasingly recognizing the value of this unique location. However, the simultaneous operation of the academy and the conferences is a challenge. The academic use has priority and thus limits the availability of premises. This shows the need to expand the infrastructure accordingly in order to meet the growing requirements.
After 25 years in the company, comprehensive renovation is also inevitable. For example, the kitchen, which not only supports the Fermata restaurant, but also the entire academic company, must be modernized in order to meet today's standards. Academy Director of Woellwarth praises the good cooperation with the Office for Wealth and Construction in Gmünd to take the necessary measures.
With regard to the implementation of the hotel project, Woellwarth remains optimistic. In the expansion, he sees a potential structural highlight and a tourist flagship for the region. The fact is that the arguments for this project strengthens and the necessity is unmistakable. The academy, which attracts around 20,000 musicians and over 45,000 visitors annually, rely on well -functioning premises in order to continue to offer optimal training and event experience.
In addition, the Fermata restaurant is operated by the foundation and has also established itself as an important service provider. It not only offers a large selection of dishes, including many vegan dishes, but also contributes to the financing of the entire academy business, since every visit flows directly to the promotion of the music school academy.
The Kapfenburg remains an important point of contact for culture and education in the Ostalbkreis. While the hopes for the hotel building continue to exist, it remains to be seen how the foundation's financial situation will develop and whether the planned extensions can be realized in the near future. The importance of this project for the region and the actors remains undisputed, even if the way there is rocky.
