Böblingen: A 81 expansion is progressing - bridge modernization begins!

Sindelfingen, Deutschland - The expansion of the A 81 motorway in the Böblingen district is progressing. As szbz.de , there were two bridge breakdowns this year to make room for the widening of the highway. The first bridge is being demolished is located in Sindelfinger/Böblinger Straße, the demolition is planned for February 2024. A new bridge has been in operation since December 2023.

The expansion is required to expand the A 81 from currently two lanes per direction. This was also confirmed by DEGES in its project for the A 81 expansion between Sindelfingen-Ost and Böblingen-Hulb, where there is currently no side strip. Wide hard shoulder are planned that can be released temporarily during peak times to improve the traffic situation.

New infrastructural concept

The responsible authorities, including the federal government, the state and the district of Böblingen, have also agreed to cover the A 81 over a length of 850 meters. As part of this measure, approximately 3.4 kilometers of noise barriers are built. To the east of the covering, one -sided widening of the highway to the south is planned, while western a symmetrical widening with an additional lane is carried out.

Overall, the entire route expansion is expected to be completed by 2027. In addition, the junction concept is restructured: The half-connection at the Böblingen-Ost junction is expanded into a full connection, while the Sindelfingen-Ost junction loses some ramps. These extensive measures are carried out in cooperation with various authorities and associations, such as DEGES.de in detail.
