School crisis in Bad Teinach: Lack of teachers threatens the future of the Haldenwang School!
The Karl-Georg Haldenwang School, a special educational center in Bad Teinach-Zavelstein, faces challenges due to increasing number of students. 142 students are currently attending the facility, which is an increase in 102 students in 2017. Forecasts of the Pforzheim school office indicate that the number could increase to 180 by 2030. In order to meet the space requirement, the district has selected a former kindergarten in Neuweiler as the new branch for the Haldenwang School in order to meet future requirements, such as the Schwarzwaelder messenger reported.
In another situation, the Haldenwang School in Singen is struggling with a massive lack of teachers, which has meant that almost 20 % of the lessons have failed since the beginning of the school year. MP Hans-Peter Storz (SPD) asked which measures the state government is taking and criticizes their previous efforts as inadequate. While the number of pupils at the Haldenwang School rose from 154 to 182 in the last school year, the number of teachers remained at 61. The degree of care has dropped to 79 %, while Minister of Culture Teresa Schopper has granted that the situation has not improved in the current school year. Storz criticizes that the Ministry of Culture is hidden behind general statements and does not mentions any concrete measures. According to Wochblatt is only checked whether teachers can be transferred to the Haldenwangschule.
effects of the teacher lack
The Haldenwang School tries to minimize the effects of the reduced hourly boards by offering afternoon lessons on a weekday. On two further afternoons there is an extended offer of teaching, depending on the availability of teachers and childcare staff. Storz points out that the personnel bottlenecks in the area of special education are known for a long time and that the government has hesitated too long to increase the training capacity. Nationwide there is an increase in educational assistants for special educational and advisory centers by 67 full-time positions, but no information about the occupation of these positions is available. Storz praises the commitment of the teachers at the Haldenwang School and demands effective help for the school.
