Coaching4future: Professional orientation for students at the Kepler-Gymnasium Leonberg (22nd to October 25, 2024)

The educational program Coaching4future will be held from October 22nd to 25th, 2024 at the Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium in Leonberg. The program aims to inform pupils about professional perspectives in the area of MINT disciplines (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology). Young coaches offer interactive lectures and workshops in which the participants can get practical insights into technical professions and become active themselves, for example by building robots.

The important role of MINT professions in today's society cannot be overlooked. In a region like Baden-Württemberg, which is strongly shaped by its industrial basis, well-trained specialists play a crucial role in the competitiveness and innovative strength of companies in technical professions. Especially in cities such as Stuttgart, which are known as the "Silicon Valley of the automotive industry", there is a high demand for qualified workers in the MINT professions. This initiative could therefore affect not only the students of the Johannes Kepler-Gymnasium, but also the entire region, since it contributes to promoting talents that are later needed in business.

The unemployment rate in Baden-Württemberg is currently about 4.5 %, which is low compared to other federal states. This shows that the economy in the region is stable and offers perspectives. Nevertheless, there is an acute shortage of skilled workers in MINT professions, which is to be counteracted by education initiatives such as coaching4future. Especially with regard to the future technologies, it is crucial that young people are motivated early on to deal with these topics and to develop interests for technical professions.

Here are some relevant data on the role of MINT professions in Baden-Württemberg:

professional group Number of training positions (2023) average content (gross annually)
computer scientist 10,000 55,000 €
engineers (mechanical engineering) 15:500 60,000 €
technician 8,000 50,000 €
medical technician 3,500 48,000 €

The initiative Coaching4future not only supports the personal development of young people, but also has the potential impact of securing the economic future of the region. The lectures and workshops can act as a link between their school career and a possible career in exciting technical professions. In view of the progressive digitization and technological change, it is crucial that students are given the opportunity to deal with these topics in good time and to get excited about a career in the MINT area.
