Teaching the robots: Coaches make Gerstetter School in a playful desire for technology professions

Finding the right job is often difficult for young people. The educational program Coaching4future therefore visits the Gerstetter Alb education center on Wednesday and Friday, June 26th and 28.2024. Two coaches give the pupils insight into important social future issues and thus linked job profiles to inform about training and study routes in the so-called MINT disciplines of mathematics, computer science, science and technology. In your luggage you have an entertaining hands-on lecture, experimental workshops on the subject of robotics and a lot of technology to try out. The Baden-Württemberg Foundation, the Südwestmetall employers' association and the Baden-Württemberg Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency for the specialists of tomorrow are involved with Coaching4future.

Gerstetten (25.06.2024) - whether craft, industry or research and development - the skilled worker is already great. If more and more people are retiring in the coming years, it will be even bigger. Baden-Württemberg with its many industrial and high-tech companies in particular feel the lack in technical and scientific professions. In addition, the diversity of the apprenticeships and subjects is often not known or young people have no idea what they do and what they work on.

That is why it is important to show the professional perspectives in the MINT area before graduation. The educational program Coaching4future has been traveling at secondary schools in Baden-Württemberg since 2008. On Wednesday and Friday, June 26th and 28th, 2024, the coaches invite the junior high school students to inform and participate at the Gerstetter Alb education center.

Interactive lecture: Trying and understanding technology

You support the pupils of the eighth and ninth classes with insights into current future topics in professional orientation. The two tech coaches Stefanie Godel and Carmen Stegmann present the young people a lot of technical exhibits to touch and try out the youngsters with an interactive lecture with videos and hands-on experiments.

You present new technologies and materials and use these examples to explain what MINT professions do and how young people can work in the solution of important social challenges. The school classes themselves decide which subject area. The selection ranges from machines and robots to living and mobility of the future to medicine, lifestyle and environmental protection.

workshops on information technology and engineering science

In complementary workshops, the young people get to know the basic principles of robotics. With the help of cube modules with different functions, you can solve specified tasks. Some modules can distinguish brightness from darkness, recognize other distances or reverse functions. From these “building blocks”, the pupils in Gerstetten construct, for example, robots that switch on the light at night or follow a given track like logistical robots. In addition, the young people learn more about information technology professions and robotics in everyday life and in the world of work.

Test and find interests

The online portal www.coaching4future.de offers further information. The “career attendant” prospect reveals which STEM courses and apprenticeship professions best match the personal strengths and tendencies. Network companies in the program also present their training and dual study opportunities in the MINT area.
