German study: radiation from mobile phone masts damages human genetic material!

The Athem 3 study, which was recently published, examines the long-term effects of mobile phone basis stations on human genetic material. The authors come to the conclusion that even low radiation values can cause serious damage to the genome. The environmental and consumer organization Diagnosis: Funk therefore calls on the responsible Federal Minister: Interior to adapt mobile phone policy accordingly.

The Athem 3 study examined blood cells from 24 test subjects from rural regions in Germany. 12 people lived near mobile phone masts, while the other 12 lived further away. It turned out that the chromosomes in the cells of those who lived near mobile phone masts had pathological changes. Chromosomala grinding, such as diet-centered chromosomes, fragments and chromatid gaps, occurred. In addition, other damage such as the damage to the cell membrane and oxidative DNA damage were increased.

The results of the ATHEM 3 study are explosive, since the effects of mobile phone radiation are comparable to damage caused by radioactive radiation, which is much stronger than the current limit. The radiation values measured in the study are often significantly higher in cities and near WLAN routers and cordless telephones.

Diagnosis: Funk concludes from the study that mobile phone radiation is harmful to health and can lead to various diseases such as cancer and impairments of fertility. As the first measure, the organization calls for a new limit for radiation and proposes alternative transmission techniques such as optical data transmission.

It remains to be seen how the responsible federal ministries react to the results of the ATHEM 3 study and whether measures are taken to make mobile phone policy compatible.
